Notes from the Members, December 2006 Two questions about these excerpts from the Ford funeral article: 1) Could Cheney be thinking about himself and Bush, instead of Nixon? 2) Isn't it good to know Bill Frist 'attended' the collapsed Broomfield... and pronounced him "OK" just like he did about Terry Schivro? A depressing AND inspirational article! S Excerpt: "You are apparently unaware of the millions of liberals and moderates scattered across America who report symptoms of panic and nausea every time your name is mentioned as the front- runner for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. They all know you would probably make a terrific President and they don't hate you like the conservatives you have been courting. They simply know you cannot win." Excerpt: " Imagine if a hurricane had hit the other America, say Greenwich, Connecticut. Construction everywhere else would have come to a dead halt as residents there got the undivided attention of the Bush administration and the building trades." Excerpt: "The big prize here for Bushs foreign policy is not the acquisition of natural resources or the enhancement of U.S. security, but rather the lining of the pockets of the defense contractors, the merchants of death who mine our treasury." "... it really helps to have politicians who are serious about governing, rather than devoting themselves entirely to amassing power and rewarding cronies." Excerpt: "What boggles the mind now is the way the nation seems to be taking this loss in stride. Much of New Orleans is still a ruin. More than half of its population is gone and an enormous percentage of the people who are still in town are suffering." Excerpt from author's bio: "A political and social activist since the Vietnam War, Linda attributes her revitalized-fully-engaged-intense-head-on-non-stop-political activism to the UNFORTUNATE EXISTENCE OF GEORGE W. BUSH and her disgust with greed-ridden American imperialism, environmental atrocities, egregious war, nuclear proliferation, lying leaders, and global tyranny!" Regular listeners know about this ... but here it is for the rest of you. S Excerpt: "Sure, using the linguistics of lies, using the metaphors of madness, it is true we are in a stalemate. We are not winning, we are not losing, we can keep not winning and not losing until everyone is dead. What will we call it then?" Excerpt: "Does that mean Goode should display "tolerance" for Keith Ellison? I've defended the concept of "tolerance" from attacks by fundamentalists and atheists, among others, but here's my problem with it: it smacks of enduring something or someone you don't particularly like having around." "I don't "tolerate" Keith Ellison. I admire, respect, and appreciate him." You might agree with many of Trump's reviews, like Bush will go down as the worst and by far the dumbest president in history. You may have heard about this article, and also that Tony Snow is denying they are "at odds." Who shall we believe, the white house??? Szy It's also interesting to read the comments following the article. Some good, some bad. Susan Franciscan Benediction from Carmen EX: "A number of officials who asked not to be identified told me they are concerned that large numbers of children are remaining isolated at Renaissance Village, holed up in the trailers day in and day out, falling further and further behind educationally, and deteriorating emotionally." Excerpt: "If Bush falls for this trick, he will live in infamy as one of the least capable and least intelligent men to ever lead a global power. The old European and Ottoman empires would often breed entirely within royal families. This would from time to time produce a mentally handicapped heir to the throne. None of them have ever made a mistake as large as the one Bush would make if he attacked Iran without a legitimate military provocation." "The Democrats thought that when they had won the election, they won the debate on the war and they had W. cornered. But the president is leaning toward surging over the Democrats, voters, Baker and the Bush 41 crowd and some of his own commanders." "The most politically unproblematic black man to ever dream of national office, Senator Obama is Senator Clintons worst nightmare. He is as comfortable in his skin as she is uncomfortable in hers." "There is something agonizingly tragic about soldiers dying in a war that has already been lost." UNICEF's December 2006 report Women and Children: The Double Dividend of Gender Equality. Note that they find that giving money to WOMEN (mothers) benefits the children more than giving money to MEN (fathers). Also that women get down to business and resolve difficult issues while men dither around. The findings about money and children are the same as a Canadian welfare experiment in the 1970s. (Don't you think the only reason the SD UnionTrib printed this article by the 'very excellent' Beinart, is that Barbara Boxer is criticized? S) And what if he's WORSE than stupid? What if he IS that callous? Which he is... S Excerpts: "...He rallied his last two allies his English poodle and his Scottish terrier, Blair and Barney." EX: "Its real mission was to avert the worst scenario, in which a stubborn George W. Bush spends the next two years blindly insisting he will accept nothing short of victory, while Iraq keeps spiraling out of control and the Iraqis get no closer to being able to contain the chaos after the Americans leave. " Susan Excerpt: "The truth about official Washington is this: the one area of bipartisan consensus is that people across the aisles ask whether this President is dangerously close to crossing a Captain Queeg line as a leader who sails further and further away from a rational and sane understanding of the damage he does." "... Insensitivity to nationalism may be the biggest foreign policy mistake the U.S. and Europe alike have made in the last half-century from Vietnam to Suez, Mexico to Algeria and weve been repeating it in Iraq." Susan "These are the statements of a man who knew he was lying, a man who believes nobody should care whether he lies or not, a man who doesn't much care himself, but still none-theless a sane albeit heartless, cruel, and stupid human being who knew he was lying." History will record that americans allowed an ignorant, arrogant moron to pretend to be president.
